Some metal clay experience is necessary for this workshop

Joy has been making mask pendants for quite a few years now - but now she's stepped it up a gear!! Gone are the empty cut outs for eyes and instead we'll be adding some eyes (not real ones of course!) and Joy has various methods for enhancing the eyes to add colour. Other new techniques in this workshop include sculpting facial features to really alter the look and making it uniquely yours.

You can make your pendant a human, an alien or even create an animal, or maybe you'll think of something else. There's plenty of choice and we'll have examples and inspiration for you too.

Once you've made your silver mask we'll add colour using enamels and we'll also cover how to add wires to the surface to create free standing cells for the enamel to go into using Joy's Enamelled Accents technique.

Joy Funnell

“I love colours and I love textures! These two things inspire most of my work. Having started out with traditional jewellery techniques and materials my first encounter with silver clay changed my life. I am passionate about using it and combining it with enamel. I hope I can share the magic with you.”

Joy lives and works in Hastings, East Sussex, UK, and is known for her colourful enamel and silver work.  She was making jewellery for many years as a hobby before she encountered silver clay in 2005 and was hooked. Within a year she trained up to Senior Art Clay Instructor, gave up the day job and leapt into a full time career as a jewellery artisan. In 2009 she was awarded Craftsman status with the Guild of Enamellers.

Joy teaches from her base, as well as nationally and internationally, and has taught at various metal clay and enamelling conferences around the world. Her award winning work has been featured in many magazines and publications. She sells her work online and at fairs.
